Rosie Spritz

Drawing inspiration from Spider-Man, Captain Marvel, and Kim Possible, I created Rosie Spritz. I knew I wanted to create a female sort of superhero, so I spent a lot of time analyzing existing superhero characters to help me come up with ideas. As I started thinking about characteristics and costumes, I realized I wanted to create a character that embodied myself.

Spider-Man is my all-time favorite superhero, so I wanted the character’s suit to have some Spider-Man characteristics. That is what inspired the shape of the lenses of the goggles, and the character’s boots.

When creating Rosie, I wanted to create a persona of a sweet, seemingly innocent girl with a secret identity as a vigilante. The high pony tail makes the character seem a lot younger than she is, and her stature is smaller than that of other super heroes. I really wanted her to fit the “tiny but mighty” description. I wanted her to appear harmless but then turn out to be an absolute badass.

Since I am an artist and I designed this character to somewhat embody myself, I decided to make spray paint Rosie’s main weapon. The design shows her wearing a belt holding cans of spray paint. However, my idea is that these cans would not hold spray paint, but would release other gadgets or weapons that could be used against an enemy. For example, a grappling hook, a sticky substance, smoke, etc.

When naming the character, the first name Rosie came from my middle name, Rose. The last name Spritz was inspired by the spray paint, and I also thought that Spritz stood well on its own and could serve as the public name of the superhero, since Rosie’s identity is a secret.
